Specialist Veterinary Procedures
and Surgeries
Led by Dr. Derniese Goh, our Small Animal Specialist in Surgery, the surgical team at Westside collaborates with both the emergency and critical care units, along with referring veterinarians, to deliver a complete and meticulous surgical solution and treatment plan, ensuring the optimal outcome for your pet.
What we do &
What to expect
Specialist Consultation
During the initial consultation, our specialist surgeon will have a thorough discussion with you to assess your pet’s condition, following a referral from your primary care veterinarian or emergency department.
After evaluating the issue, the surgeon will explain the recommended surgery or procedure, the rationale behind it, and the expected outcomes.
Pre-Anaesthesia Blood Tests and Checks
Our surgeon will discuss your pet's pre-anesthesia blood work with you as well as risks of anesthesia for your pet prior to the surgery.
Surgical Procedure/
Surgery
Patients' vitals are closely monitored by trained and experienced nurses to ensure that your pet remains stable through the procedure until they are fully recovered from anesthesia.
Post-operative treatment as well as discharge plans will then be discussed with you depending on your pet's condition.
Diagnostics
Imaging modalities such as X-ray (radiography), CT (computed tomography) or ultrasound may be used to better understand your pet's condition before the surgery occurs.
These are all services offered in-house within our hospital.
Stabilization
If your pet is not stable enough to undergo the surgical procedure, a referral to the emergency and critical care department for stabilization may be recommended and discussed with you.
24-hour Emergency and Critical Care Team
Should your pet require close monitoring overnight in the hospital, our team of veterinarians and nurses from our Emergency and Critical Care Department will be there to assess your pet's condition through the night.
If your pet has been discharged home and an emergency or a concern occurs post-discharge, you can reach our Emergency and Critical Team via our hotline at any time for advice.
