Specialist Consultation

During the initial consultation, our specialist surgeon will have a thorough discussion with you to assess your pet’s condition, following a referral from your primary care veterinarian or emergency department.

After evaluating the issue, the surgeon will explain the recommended surgery or procedure, the rationale behind it, and the expected outcomes.

Pre-Anaesthesia Blood Tests and Checks

Our surgeon will discuss your pet's pre-anesthesia blood work with you as well as risks of anesthesia for your pet prior to the surgery.

Surgical Procedure/
Surgery

Patients' vitals are closely monitored by trained and experienced nurses to ensure that your pet remains stable through the procedure until they are fully recovered from anesthesia.

Post-operative treatment as well as discharge plans will then be discussed with you depending on your pet's condition.

Diagnostics

Imaging modalities such as X-ray (radiography), CT (computed tomography) or ultrasound may be used to better understand your pet's condition before the surgery occurs.

These are all services offered in-house within our hospital.

Stabilization

If your pet is not stable enough to undergo the surgical procedure, a referral to the emergency and critical care department for stabilization may be recommended and discussed with you.

Specialist in Small Animal Surgery

Dr Derniese Goh graduated with a Masters degree in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine via an accelerated program from the University of Melbourne in 2015.

Following a rotating internship program and a surgical internship position, she was then accepted into a highly competitive surgical residency program with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS). She was awarded Fellowship status after a rigorous 3-year surgical specialty residency training and examination.

Dr Goh has many years of experience working in busy multidisciplinary referral speciality hospitals in Melbourne alongside specialists who are at the top of their fields. Dr Goh believes in an all-rounded approach to every patient. By working closely with their referring veterinarians, pet owners and families, she strives to achieve the best possible outcome for all her patients and their families.

She is an active member of the ANZCVS and is a strong advocate for practicing evidence-based medicine. In addition to her contribution to several publications in peer reviewed journals, Dr Goh has spoken at and regularly attends international surgical conferences in Australia, the USA and Europe. This ensures that she always remains at the forefront of veterinary science and that her recommendations for her patients are consistent with current literature.

Born and bred in Singapore and also a proud alumni of the Hwa Chong Institution, Dr Goh and her family have moved back home to not only be closer to family and friends, but also with the goal of contributing to the improvement of veterinary standards in Singapore.

Dr Goh has a habit of adopting a fur baby every few years (until her husband set a limit of the number of animals per living space and time spent vacuuming) and currently shares her house with Beanie the Border Collie, Master Haku the Japanese Spitz, Pebbles the Domestic Short Hair, and Sophie the Ragdoll. Her fur family has travelled from Melbourne with her and are now enjoying life in our sunny island.

During her free time, Dr Goh enjoys running, hiking, snorkeling and travelling. Beanie is in fact, a frequent rider, and has sat in the back of her car and travelled with her to several different states within Australia!
